Here’s one for all the lonely listeners out there. Hang on, we’ve still got hours to go. I’ll stay till morning comes, I’ll take what you can share. I’ll play the songs that say, ‘I love you’. We’ll make it seem alright, we’ll fake it through the night. If you’re lonely you can talk to me. Hello, who’s calling? Do you feel you’ve lost control? You know, I’m here for you ‘til dawn. Explain to me about the dark night of your soul, the pain that never lets go of you. I’ll cure you, I’ll reassure you - put away those pills. You’ll sleep better if you talk to me Talk to me, talk to me – if you feel depressed. Talk to me, talk to me – get if off your chest. Talk to me, talk to me , talk to me Talk to me. Talk to me. credits

Every time you look into his eyes a switch goes dead in your head Then every little lie he wants to try will find a home in your bed Tell me that you’ll exercise some caution when he says ‘you’re the one’ He’s a prophet of the falsest kind so don’t come back to me, when he’s gone He’s a dead loss, waste of space who wouldn’t know the truth if it walked right past him You can’t see what we see, he’s simply an apology so just ignore him He would sell every member of his family if he found a buyer Can’t trust a single syllable that he utters with a grin when he says God loves a tryer Turn round and start running, you should have seen him coming His promises have pie-crusts, easily made and broken Every time you look into his eyes a switch goes dead in your head Then every little lie he wants to try will find a home in your bed Tell me that you’ll exercise some caution when he says ‘you’re the one’ He’s a prophet of the falsest kind so don’t come back to me, when he’s gone Don’t look into his e - - y - - e - - s ... he’s a false prophet Don’t look into his e - - y - - e - - s ... Chesterfield, Nottingham, Waterloo Bridge Bedsitland, tin of spam, tiny shared fridge Monday’s fraught, bus is caught, job interview Counter girl, Soho whirl, everything new Peckham grey, this Wednesday, she broke a heel Shining knight helped her up, free Wimpy meal Feels herself falling for most of his charms Where is the harm... In Tuesday’s world, her heart’s a glass that shatters So easily, it hardly even matters, why should it? But this Friday night, her troubles, like the twisted spire of her hometown Seem to disappear like bubbles in her glass of Babycham Hello there Saturday, shine down on me Underground, overground, Wimbledon tea Said he’d call 5pm, Sunday’s a must Sunday’s a bust... In Tuesday’s world, true love feels so like cashmere Unlike the Thames, who asks her why she came here, how dare she Presume that she is Hampstead Heath material, she’s more like Stockwell And Monday’s here like a bailiff at the door Mon-day, Her-day, Wednesday, Thursday Fri-day, Saturday, Sunday’s turned to dust. Then Tuesday morning she opened her eyes when the shy colleague she’d not recognised Handed her a Fanta at the office party and smiled She is beguiled . Tuesday’s a girl, whose world now spins more gently Go Tuesday girl, the tube is now a Bentley, don’t make me Come over and kiss your cheek, you used to seem so meek Now that the rain has cleared and your luck has turned Say goodbye to all of the tears you’ve burned And let London show you all you have learned... You’re a skyline, in your own world, rise up to it Tuesday fly...

Maserati 04:14 video
Taken for a ride, there’s a shiny Maserati parked outside And if you know your place, there’s a smile like Liberace on his face All the virtues that await Will turn to dust when it's too late Old before your crime, he wants it on the carpet every time And if you disagree, tomorrow’s girl is hanging from the tree You told yourself that you’d be strong You didn't have to wait for long And the man at the wheel Lets the car window down You can see the cigar And the face on the clown Taken for a ride, there’s a shiny Maserati parked outside And if you know your place, there’s a smile like Liberace on his face You told yourself that you’d be strong You didn't hold that thought for long Never in my name.

Mr Punch went out and went drinking When he was drunk that night, he was thinking, When I get back home I want to be alone I want to sleep for a hundred years. It’s time to snooze now, my little darling If I could choose, you’d sing like a starling When your mother comes I will strike her dumb the father of your fears For all your faults and frailties, you know we love you still. But that’s the way the cookie crumbles Another day, another tumble I’ll see you in the surgery You’d better barricade the nursery You know she’s my beast and I’m her beauty And every night we fight Like Punch and Judy We teach the kids of this revolution The law forbids a slapstick solution A quarrel has begun And it’s all in fun Until someone loses an eye It’s not supposed to be sentimental Here’s the ghost, the coffin, the devil Now here comes Jack Ketch To give your neck a stretch But you never really die You don’t bear any malice when your head is made of wood. That’s the way the cookie crumbles Another drunk, another stumble I’ll see you back in Casualty When the crocodile gets back to me You know he’s the beast who does his duty And every night we’re Sweep and Sooty.

The sun is warm and golden, and our blue marble’s broken The sea is close to boiling point but our reasoning is frozen Pack up your things, they’re calling our number, should we wonder if we’ll make it out alive Seconds out Round None, the fury in the face of Mother Nature tells us no one will survive There’s no way back from here, we’ve all got a one-way ticket to Hell in a handcart, too late for a new start We’re all in the flames and there’s no one to blame but each other Say your goodbyes, can’t say we were not warned, as the icebergs all fall down like dominoes We put a crack in the jewel, this ship of fools deserves to sink beneath the plastic-coated blue There’s no way back from here, we’ve all got a one-way ticket to Hell in a handcart, too late for a new start We’re all in the flames and there’s no one to blame but each other credits

Our youth was wasted on the young We didn’t care, we were just having fun Oh yeah Stay out of the sun The nights were short and the days were long We used to play until the sunset song Oh yeah Stay out of the sun In the palaces and in the slums Together in the days to come A little bit Stay out of the sun Stay out of the su n Alcohol, take-aways We couldn’t lift a finger In a sprawl, in a daze We couldn’t make a move In our turn, we were burned It’s written on our skin the things we learned Stay out of the sun You see a face that you recognise He took a drive, to test his eyes Stay out of the sun Now your inhibition’s gone Go out posing with your Ray Bans on A little bit The words of Freud Won’t fill the void The thoughts of Sartre Will only break your heart You’d better stay at home And watch it on your ‘phone Stay out of the sun Stay out of the su – u – un We can track, we can trace We know the place you lingered Keep your hands off your face It’s terminal disease We were lost, but we learned If you play with fire you will be burned Stay out of the sun credits

I work all week, I wear the uniform Til Friday night, when I get my glad rags on
Could it be my turn this time? I’ll show you yours if you show me mine In the heart of the town, in the sound of the crowd I go underground, where the music’s loud Lose myself and hope that someone finds me
Leave the life of loneliness behind me Little green worm, Little green worm inside your head
Little green worm, Little green worm inside your head Don’t want to see what happens next Don’t want to go back home to bed What is this place? Could it be Bohemia?
Or a self-inflicted case of anesthesia? The cowboy watches Linnie as she dances
Waiting for the hour to take his chances Little green worm, Little green worm inside your head Little green worm, Little green worm inside your head Bb
Don’t want to see what happens next Don’t want to go back home to bed Oh oh what are you thinking of? Oh oh are you afraid of love? Pigeon-Toed Orange Peel The clock says four, you made the deal The kitchen sink, the empty flat If you go too far, you’ll never make it back Little green worm, Little green worm inside your head
Little green worm, Little green worm inside your head
Can’t find the strength to stay awake
Don’t want to go back home to bed
If you don’t get caviar and cake You can survive on tea and bread

Blink 03:40 video
No need to act the innocent, you’re born to play the role Someone with a power drilled a peephole to your soul Four and twenty mockingbirds in the road ahead Sing a song of sixpence with your pockets full of lead Fear of almost everything buzzing in his skull Every free conspiracy to feed until he’s full Makes himself a ligature and says he’s short of breath Half the world won’t understand an accidental death Ahhhhh he’s got seven lucky numbers Ahhhhh he can count as he goes under In the blink of an eye He’s almost tempted to say The time has come to give in and walk away Say thank you to the passer by who wrapped him in a rug Still intoxicated by the one and only drug In the blink of an eye He’s almost tempted to say The time has come to give in and walk away credits

Hangar 9 05:53 video
They blacked out the power all across the grid, searched high and low for the big eyed kid In an unexpected twist of fate, they turned up more than an hour late They didn’t have a lot of what you’d recognise, just a deadpan look in their deadpan eyes Did he get enough time to make a call, did he get enough time at all? Ooooh Oooooooh in Hangar 9 Feet to the fire with the glowing embers, giving him a lesson that he still remembers Did you make amends for what you said, before the offer turned his head? Hold him down with a canvas strap, keep him in line with a baseball bat With a fingertip you link his brain, you can free him from his pain The chance to exercise restraint, raise the scalpel as he faints Lost the instinct to be kind, what is it you hope to find? They blacked out the power all across the grid, searched high and low for the big eyed kid In an unexpected twist of fate, they turned up more than an hour late J.T. phone home You're not alone

Red-haired daughter with the palest arms Weaving and weeping all day The fairest one among the women Veils her face in shining linen. Robe made of silk from a distant land slippers that glitter with gold Compromising circumstances Would not repel his bold advances He leads the cavalcade He’s at the head of the parade He’s got two wives and two religions Oooooh, Helena Oooooh, Helena Oh, Helena Oh, Helena Rome was her oyster but the seafood spoiled So, she turned her back on the world She left her father, lost her mother Kept away from all the others Something in a dream Led the seekers to the scene Turning suffering to devotion Oooooh, Helena Oooooh, Helena Oh, Helena Oh, Helena

Blame it on your stupid cousin, thirteenth in the baker’s dozen Happening again and again Fresh from singing hymns of hope, dispensing justice with a rope In the hands of twelve angry men The look of indecision is the same for friend or foe By order of the donkeys you are told it’s time to go What you get is what you see, interlocking travesties In the hands of twelve angry men They ploughed it in beneath the sod, thinking they’d complete the job In a world behind a looking glass The moon will rise above the fields, and every year the harvest yields Another hoard of barbed wire and brass The look of indecision is the same for friend or foe By order of the donkeys you get told it’s time to go They’ll nail you to a piece of wood, and tell you it’s for your own good The wisdom of the twelve angry men You met the Kaiser’s daughter and she’s looking rather cute Run it up the flagpole see if anyone salutes What you get is what you see, interlocking travesties In the hands of twelve angry men Men, men, - we’re the angry men Men, men, - we’re the angry men Prejudice obscures the truth Who can tell the lies from proof? You say you didn’t do it You can say it once again You can tell it to the 12 angry men You can tell it to the 12 angry men credits

about

"For anyone yet to discover the garden of earthly delights that is Emperor Penguin, here's a great starting point. A compilation of the three digital EPs they released last year - plus four new tracks - Corporation Pop! will give you some idea of why these Londoners are being hailed as the most exciting powerpop band since Fountains of Wayne...It's well-established that Emperor Penguin have been influenced by everyone from XTC to Jellyfish and, like both, they excel at melodic twists and turns... Timeless and truly engaging." Shindig! magazine

'Emperor Penguin has proven to be a formidable talent, with a stylistic bend towards the ’60s psych-pop in many cases, like the jangling “Maserati” or the gentle harmonies in the wonderfully melodic “Hell in a Handcart.” Highly recommended.' Powerpopaholic

“Emperor Penguin in the seventeen tracks of this splendid compilation unveil sensational proof of their talent . It’s a set of wonderfully written and played pop songs, which have assimilated the lessons of Revolver and Rubber Soul , without forgetting to take inspiration from the Electric Light Orchestra and the wacky influence of Partridge and Moulding. But there is so much more!

"Corporation Pop" is a very rich album that generously highlights the enormous talent of Emperor Penguin. A tremendously fascinating collection in itself, as well as causing an irresistible urge to go and seek out all the previous works of the band soon.” Under The Tangerine Tree

CORPORATION POP!

Being observations or musical memorials of the most remarkable OCCURRENCES,
as well PUBLICK as private,
which happened in ENGLAND
during the last
GREAT VISITATION
in 2020.
Including songs never made publick before.

“When the physicians assured us that the danger was as well from the sound (that is, the seemingly sound) as the sick, and that those people who thought themselves entirely free were oftentimes the most fatal, and that it came to be generally understood that people were sensible of it, and of the reason of it; then, I say, they began to be jealous of everybody, and a vast number of people locked themselves up, so as not to come abroad into any company at all, nor suffer any that had been abroad in promiscuous company to come into their houses, or near them—at least not so near them as to be within the reach of their breath or of any smell from them; and when they were obliged to converse at a distance with strangers, they would always have preservatives in their mouths and about their clothes to repel and keep off the infection. It must be acknowledged that when people began to use these cautions they were less exposed to danger, and the infection did not break into such houses so furiously as it did into others before; and thousands of families were preserved (speaking with due reserve to the direction of Divine Providence) by that means.”
― Daniel Defoe, A Journal of the Plague Year (1722)

The term CORPORATION POP is a deceptive phrase employed by Mr Winfield’s grandmother in days of YORE. In the hot summer when he would return home, parched of throat, from 'laking out' (playing football) she would enquire if he desired a glass of Corporation Pop. Enthusiastic assent turned to disappointment when this ‘pop’ turned out to be not an ice-cold glass of Dandelion and Burdock but mere tap water provided by the Yorkshire Water Board.

Emperor Penguin trusts that listeners will find the Corporation Pop herein as refreshing and invigorating as any carbonated beverage.
